SRC Spring 2024 hours of operation:
- Monday-Friday: 5:30 a.m.-10 p.m.
- Saturday: 9 a.m.-10 p.m.
- Sunday: 12-7 p.m.
Outdoor Adventures Spring 2024 hours of operation:
- Monday and Friday: 12 p.m - 6 p.m.
- Tuesday-Thursday: 12 p.m. - 5 p.m.
In order to use the °®ÎÛ´«Ã½ SRC climbing wall ALL users must have a current UAF SRC climbing wall certification.
But what if I just want to boulder?
You still need to have a current UAF SRC climbing wall certification! The safety orientation class covers important information and a waiver that is required for all climbing wall users.
Certification Options
- WHO:
- If you're new to climbing or want an in-depth refresher then this is the class for you!
- WHAT:
- Our climbing wall safety orientation (belay) class covers important information about gym rules as well as how to use a harness, tie into the rope with a figure 8 follow-through knot and how to operate the belay device and our TruBlue auto belay systems.

- COST:
- $15 per person for °®ÎÛ´«Ã½ students and SRC members
- $20 for non-SRC members
- HOW LONG:
- This class is 1 - 1.5 hours long
- Private class:
- Contact Christian at cgmogensen@alaska.edu to schedule a check-off time outside our regularly scheduled classes
- Private re-cert classes are subject to instructor availability. We will work with you to schedule a time that works for you and the instructor.
- WHO:
- If you already know how to put on a harness, tie in with a figure 8 follow through and belay with a GriGri using the P.L.U.S. (P.B.U.S.) method then you can schedule a check-off.
- WHAT:
- Our check-off class goes over gym rules and policies as well as an assessment to make sure you're able to perform our requirements to our standards.
- If you fail your assessment then we will help get you signed up for a full certification class.

- The check-off generally takes around 15 minutes.

- WHO:
- If your °®ÎÛ´«Ã½ SRC climbing wall certification has expired and you want to keep using the climbing wall then this class is an option for you.
- WHAT:
- Our re-cert class covers any potential changes to gym rules since your last certification as well as an assessment to make sure you're able to perform our requirements to our standards. You have to demonstrate that you can put on a harness correctly, tie in with a figure 8 follow-through, belay with a GriGri using the P.L.U.S. (P.B.U.S.) method, and operate the auto belay correctly.

- Re-certs are FREE for those who have a previous °®ÎÛ´«Ã½ SRC climbing wall certification on file.
- You must have an expired °®ÎÛ´«Ã½ climbing wall cert to get a free re-cert

- The re-cert check off generally takes around 15 minutes depending on the group size.

- WHAT:

Things to note:
- We do not accept certifications from other climbing gyms.
- Pre-registration is required as space is limited. See registration options for how to register.
- Orientation starts promptly. Late comers will be asked to sign up for a different class.
- Age requirements:
- Belay certified: minimum age 14 years old
- Climb and auto belay certified: any age provided a harness can be properly fitted according to manufacturer's specifications.
- Auto belay climbers must be between the manufacturer's-specified 22lbs and 330lbs.
- Your certification card must be visible on your person while at the climbing wall.

Certification expire after 1 year, so be sure to register for a free re-cert!
At the °®ÎÛ´«Ã½ SRC climbing wall we require climbers to use the P.L.U.S. or P.B.U.S. technique to belay. This is in accordance with the manufacturer's requirements for how the Petzl Grigri and Black Diamond ATC belay devices must be operated in order to mitigate accidents.
