Sitka chef to lead brunch-time biscuit-making workshop

Learn the tricks and tips for making sourdough buttermilk biscuits similar to these during a hands-on workshop in Sitka.

Sitka chef Andrew Jylkka will share his tips and tricks for making sourdough buttermilk biscuits during a cozy brunch-time class.

The class is sponsored by the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service in Sitka. During the class, participants will create breakfast sandwiches and take biscuits to bake at home.

Jylkka has been a professional baker for six years. He said he strongly believes in the power of food to create community and thinks life is always better with some bread in the oven and soup on the stove.

The class will meet from 9- to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Sitka Lutheran Church kitchen, 224 Lincoln St., Sitka. Please use the church’s back entrance, located on Harbor Drive, as the front door will be locked. The entrance is located down a one-way alley, and there is limited parking available. Youth under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

The cost is $35 and includes all materials. . The registration deadline is Dec. 5.
