Week 13!Ìý
Greetings!
The final three weeks of the term are before us. You have got this! Stick to your
plan. Put in the time (there are no shortcuts!). Very soon, you’ll be sitting atop
another completed semester - another completed year!
Are you a student employee? If you are - thank you! It is . The dedication and knowledge that our student employees bring to °®ÎÛ´«Ã½ help our university
grow and thrive. Our student employees perform invaluable services with enthusiasm,
dedication, and initiative. Here at UAF, we will be celebrating Student Employee Appreciation
Week with a series of this week!
One of my favorite events is the annual student employee (and supervisor) ice cream
social! You are invited to swing by the Wood Center from noon to 2 p.m. this Thursday
for a free ice cream! Springtime is ice cream time!Ìý
If you are not already one of the 1,370 student employees (!) at UAF, please consider
joining the team! There are tons of open at UAF right now, and many positions have full-time opportunities over the summer.
What are you doing this summer? Working for °®ÎÛ´«Ã½ over the summer can be awesome. You
can enjoy the amazing summer in Interior Alaska, knock out a few classes, and build
your resume all at one time!Ìý
In general, working while attending college can be one of the most valuable aspects
of your higher education experience. Many of our student employees pursue their student
jobs into full-time employment with °®ÎÛ´«Ã½. Others take the professional and technical
skills they have learned into jobs and fields outside of our hallowed halls. The time
invested in a student job can pay off with dividends greater than immediate financial
rewards. In addition to career development opportunities, you can find a place where
your contribution matters differently than in the classroom, you can find a place
where your work means more to our collective enterprise. You can find friends, community,
shared purpose, a place of belonging, and even a surrogate family. If you have yet
to explore the idea, check it out. All °®ÎÛ´«Ã½ Student Jobs can be found .

Take care of yourself:
You are entering the final miles of our long race. Take a moment to check in with
yourself. How are you doing? Get rest where you can. Schedule a nap. Go to bed early.
Resting your brain can mean moving your body. Get outside. How about your friends
and fellow scholars? If your pace is strong, take a moment to look after those around
you. We are nearly there. You are doing amazing!
As always, if there is something we can do better, email me atÌýobguthrie@alaska.edu.
