RE: Clery Act Compliance and Authority
The University of Alaska Fairbanks (°®ÎÛ´«Ã½) is committed to building the infrastructure required to maintain compliance with the Clery Act. The Clery Act is a federal law requiring colleges and universities participating in federal financial aid programs to maintain and disclose campus crime statistics and security information. Compliance is an institution wide effort and requires collaboration and effective cooperation spanning all areas of the universities’ operations.
The Center for Student Rights and Responsibilities (CSRR) has the primary responsibility of leading and coordinating campus compliance with the Clery Act. CSRR will provide institution wide trainings, manage required provisions of compliance, and work with departments directly to ensure policies and processes align with what is required by the Clery Act.
It is the responsibility of each department identified as having a critical role in Clery Act compliance, to work cooperatively and collaboratively with CSRR in ensuring campus wide compliance. Issues of noncompliance identified by CSRR will be addressed with the respective department and are expected to be remedied without delay. Continued non-compliance concerns will be addressed by the respective Vice Chancellor responsible for the department and if a resolution is not met, will be resolved by the Chancellor.
Please distribute this memo as appropriate. If you have any questions regarding the Clery Act, please contact Kaydee Van Flein, Director and Chief Student Conduct Officer, at kmiller20@alaska.edu or (907) 474-7234.
