Wildland Fire Science
Training Program
Join our nationally certified wildland fire science training program and gain the skills to respond to wildfire emergencies in Alaska and around the world. This innovative, hands-on program combines classwork with extensive in-the-field training — operating chainsaws and fire pumps, working with helicopters and other aircraft, and simulating actual fire environments in the majority of our courses. Thanks to our own university-based wildland fire crew and numerous partnerships with local and national fire agencies and wildland programs, you’ll also have the opportunity to be employed as a student firefighter as part of a hand crew or gain a foot in the door with multiple wildland fire agencies. Graduates have an exceptional placement rate in firefighting and other emergency service related careers across Alaska and the nation.
